The Phenomenon of Doomscrolling Among Generation Z: An Analysis of Digital Information Consumption Behavior and Control Strategies Based on Pangadereng Values

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of doomscrolling among Generation Z, examine patterns of digital information consumption that contribute to this behavior, and formulate strategies for self-regulation based on the local values of Pangadereng. The study employs a mixed-methods approach using a Sequential Explanatory Design. The quantitative phase examines the relationship between digital information consumption behavior and doomscrolling tendencies among Generation Z through questionnaire-based data collection and statistical analysis. The qualitative phase explores participants' experiences, motivations, self-regulation processes, and interpretations of the Pangadereng values in responding to excessive exposure to negative digital information. The findings are expected to identify key patterns and factors associated with doomscrolling and to explain how the values of Ade' and Sara' may support reflective, responsible, and controlled information consumption. The integration of quantitative and qualitative findings will provide a basis for developing a culturally grounded strategy to strengthen digital self-regulation among Generation Z. This study is expected to contribute to the development of digital literacy and culturally responsive approaches to promoting healthier information consumption.
