Abstract

Abstract:  Limited clean water availability during the dry season has become a serious concern for the community of Jambean Hamlet due to the lack of subsurface information for groundwater development planning. This community service initiative aimed to employ the electrical resistivity approach to describe subsurface conditions to guide water resource management. The program consisted of coordination with the local government and community; geoelectrical surveys using the Direct Current (DC) Resistivity method with the Wenner–Schlumberger array along two survey lines; data processing using Res2DInv software; subsurface interpretation; and dissemination of the results to the community. Four major subsurface layers were identified by the interpretation, with a possible shallow unconfined aquifer located between 7 and 18 meters below the surface. These results led to suggestions for the management of water resources, such as safeguarding recharge areas, limiting groundwater abstraction, improving recharge through infiltration wells and biopores, and, where required, considering deeper aquifer excavation. The initiative delivers scientific knowledge to help decision-making on groundwater development and promote sustainable water resource management in the community.
