ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LIBRARY SERVICES: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW OF TRENDS, CHALLENGES, AND OPPORTUNITIES

Abstract


This study aims to examine the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in library services by identifying key trends, challenges, and opportunities. This research is important as libraries must adapt to rapid technological developments to remain relevant in the digital era. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach was employed, collecting data from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. A total of 25 articles published between 2015 and 2025 were selected through a systematic screening process based on predefined criteria. Data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis to identify patterns and classify findings into major themes. The results indicate that AI is widely applied in automating library operations, enhancing information retrieval, and providing personalized services. However, challenges persist, including limited infrastructure, low digital competencies among librarians, financial constraints, and ethical concerns such as data privacy and algorithmic bias. In conclusion, AI has strong potential to transform library services into more efficient and user-centered systems. Strategic efforts, including infrastructure development, capacity building, and policy support, are essential. Future research should focus on empirical studies and the long-term impact of AI in library contexts.
