Analisis Karakteristik Daerah Rawan Kecelakaan Lalu Lintas Menggunakan Metode Equivalent Accident Number (EAN) Pada Ruas Jalan H.L. Kamaluddin Kabupaten Lombok Timur

Abstract

Traffic accidents continue to be a major transportation concern owing to the fatalities, injuries, and property destruction they inflict. The H. Lalu Kamaluddin Road in East Lombok Regency is a heavily frequented thoroughfare, rendering specific areas susceptible to frequent accidents. This research seeks to identify the characteristics of traffic collisions, pinpoint accident-prone zones (black spots) using the Equivalent Accident Number (EAN) methodology, and evaluate the current conditions at sites recognized as high-risk areas.

This study employs a quantitative descriptive method. The data used consist of secondary data in the form of traffic accident records from the East Lombok Police Traffic Unit for the period 2021–2025 and primary data obtained through field observations at the black spot locations. The analysis was conducted through the verification of the study corridor, standardization of incident locations, and calculation of EAN values based on the severity of injuries—namely, fatalities (MD), serious injuries (LB), and minor injuries (LR)—which were then compared with the Upper Control Limit (BKA) to determine locations classified as accident-prone areas. The results of the study indicate that during the 2021–2025 period, there were 47 traffic accidents resulting in 10 fatalities, 1 serious injury, and 52 minor injuries on the H. Lalu Kamaluddin Road section. Based on the analysis of the EAN and UCL values, locations with an EAN value exceeding the UCL were designated as accident-prone areas (black spots), namely Montong Baan and Kebon Pancor. Field observations indicate that both locations share several factors that could increase the risk of accidents, including high traffic volume, roadside obstacles, fading road markings, limited road safety infrastructure, and high levels of activity in nearby residential areas and schools. Therefore, mitigation efforts are needed, such as improving road safety facilities, repairing road markings and traffic signs, controlling roadside obstacles, and raising road user awareness to reduce the accident rate on these road sections.
