Author Guidelines
Al-I'lam: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam
Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram, Indonesia
1. Journal Scope and Submission Information
Al-I'lam: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam publishes scholarly articles addressing communication, Islamic communication, da'wah, media studies, cultural studies, and other related fields within the journal's stated focus and scope.
This OJS 2 platform serves as the archive of previously published issues. Authors submitting new manuscripts must use the journal's OJS 3 platform:
https://journal2.ummat.ac.id/index.php/jail/en/about/submissions
New submissions must follow the current author guidelines, language requirements, article template, and publication ethics policies published on OJS 3.
2. Originality and Academic Integrity
All submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work and must not be under consideration by another journal.
Previously published journal articles are not accepted as new submissions. Substantially extended conference papers may be considered only where permitted by the journal's current publication policy, with full disclosure of the earlier publication, significant original contributions, and compliance with copyright requirements.
Authors are responsible for the authenticity of their data, accuracy of references, originality of analysis, and integrity of their conclusions.
3. Manuscript Language and Formatting
New manuscripts submitted through OJS 3 must be written in academic English and prepared using the journal's current official article template.
Authors must follow the template requirements concerning manuscript structure, typography, page layout, abstract, keywords, tables, figures, citations, and references.
Historical articles published through OJS 2 remain subject to the submission and formatting policies applicable at the time of their original publication.
4. Research Originality and Novelty (F.4)
Every research manuscript must demonstrate an identifiable scientific contribution.
The Introduction should clearly present the research problem, relevant previous studies, research gap, research objectives, and novelty.
Novelty must be supported by scholarly evidence and may involve original empirical findings, theoretical contributions, methodological developments, or meaningful new interpretations.
Authors must explain how their work extends, challenges, or contributes to existing knowledge.
5. Research Methodology, Analysis, and Synthesis (F.5)
The Research Methods section must describe the research design, data sources, sampling or participant selection, data collection procedures, analytical techniques, and ethical considerations, where applicable.
The Results section must present findings supported by actual research evidence.
The Discussion section must provide critical interpretation rather than merely repeat or describe the findings. Authors must relate their findings to relevant theories and previous research and explain their academic and practical implications.
The Conclusion must respond to the research objectives and be supported by the study's findings.
6. Primary Scholarly References (F.7)
Authors must prioritize credible, relevant, and verifiable scholarly references, particularly original research publications.
The adequacy of primary references will be assessed according to their scientific relevance, quality, and suitability to the research methodology.
Authors should maintain an appropriate balance between original research articles, theoretical sources, and foundational literature.
All references must be traceable and accurately cited. Fabricated references, inaccurate DOIs, and citations to sources that have not been verified are prohibited.
7. Currency of References (F.8)
Authors are expected to demonstrate an understanding of recent developments in their research area by citing relevant contemporary scholarly publications.
Recent peer-reviewed literature should be prioritized where available and academically appropriate.
Foundational theories, historical documents, classical Islamic literature, and other seminal works may be cited when necessary to support the research.
References must not be added solely to satisfy numerical targets or publication-year requirements.
8. Plagiarism and Similarity Screening
All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism and similarity screening using Turnitin or equivalent software.
The journal's previously published OJS 2 submission checklist specifies a similarity threshold of below 15%.
Any similarity threshold adopted for new submissions must be consistently stated in the current Author Guidelines, Submission Checklist, and Publication Ethics Policy.
Similarity percentages are screening indicators and do not independently establish whether plagiarism has occurred. Editors must assess the sources, attribution, extent, and context of textual overlap.
9. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Disclosure
Authors must comply with the journal's current Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.
Generative AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, references, analysis, and integrity of their manuscripts.
AI use must be disclosed in accordance with the journal's requirements. Research applications involving AI must be described transparently in the relevant methodological sections.
AI-generated or manipulated research data, fabricated citations, and misleading representations of research evidence are prohibited.
10. Publication Ethics and Author Responsibilities
Authors must comply with the journal's policies concerning research ethics, authorship, conflicts of interest, copyright, licensing, data protection, and academic misconduct.
Research involving human participants must provide appropriate information concerning informed consent, privacy protection, and ethical approval or compliance where applicable.
Authors must respond appropriately to editorial inquiries, provide necessary clarification, and cooperate with legitimate corrections when errors are identified.
11. Editorial Assessment and Peer Review
Manuscripts are initially assessed for relevance to the journal's scope, originality, methodological adequacy, scholarly contribution, reference quality, publication ethics, and compliance with the journal's submission requirements.
Manuscripts that do not meet the initial requirements may be returned for clarification or declined before external peer review.
Manuscripts that pass initial screening will undergo independent scholarly peer review according to the journal's published peer-review policy.
Editorial decisions are made by authorized human editors based on scholarly quality, review findings, research integrity, and the journal's publication standards.
12. Policy Implementation
These updated guidelines provide current editorial guidance and do not retroactively change the publication requirements or editorial history of previously published articles.
New submissions must comply with the policies and requirements published on the journal's current OJS 3 platform.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
