Pengelolaan Sampah Berbasis Ekonomi Sirkular Melalui Pelatihan Ecobricks dan Upcycling di Dusun Jombatan, Provinsi Jawa Timur
Abstract
Abstract: The issue of household waste management remains a challenge for sustainable development in Indonesia. Low awareness of waste sorting, a lack of waste management facilities, and widespread waste burning have led to increased environmental pollution and public health risks. This community service initiative aims to improve the community’s knowledge, skills, and behavioral changes in managing household waste through ecobrick training as part of a circular economy approach. The community service activity was conducted in Jombatan Village, Jombang Regency, using a participatory method that included outreach, training, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation. Participants consisted of village residents with support from the village government and the Jombang Regency Environmental Agency, as well as faculty members and students from the International Relations Program at UPN “Veteran” East Java. The results of the activity showed an increase in the community’s understanding of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) principles, their skills in making ecobricks, and their awareness of the need to reduce waste burning. In addition, participants also acquired upcycling skills by making brooms from used plastic bottles and doormats from scrap fabric. The program was supported by the provision of sorted trash bins, educational boards, and a sample chair made from ecobricks.
Keywords
