Abstract

The manufacturing sector contributed 18.98% of Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024, yet its production processes can generate noise levels exceeding the 85 dBA Threshold Limit Value (TLV) set by Manpower Ministerial Regulation No. 5 of 2018. This study aimed to measure noise intensity using the Equivalent Continuous Noise Level (Leq) method, assessed operators’ physical fatigue using the Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) questionnaire, and analyzed the effect of noise exceeding the exposure limit value on the physical fatigue of production operators at PT. FNF Metalindo Utama. The observational design used a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest approach applied to 22 respondents drawn from a population of 28 operators, determined using the Slovin formula and simple random sampling. Physical fatigue was measured before and after the use of earplugs as the control intervention. Data were analyzed using tests for normality, linearity, and heteroscedasticity, Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, t-tests, the coefficient of determination, and a paired-difference test. Leq values across all measurement points and sessions ranged from 86.8 to 91.7 dBA, exceeding the TLV. The proportion of respondents in the high-fatigue category fell from 8 respondents (36.36%) to 1 respondent (4.55%) after earplug use. Pearson correlation showed a significant positive relationship both before (r = 0.564; Sig. = 0.006) and after earplug use (r = 0.674; Sig. = 0.001), with the coefficient of determination rising from 31.9% to 45.4%. The paired-difference test confirmed a significant reduction in fatigue (t = 6.722; Sig. = 0.000). Noise intensity exceeding the TLV was shown to significantly affect operators' physical fatigue, and earplugs proved effective in reducing this impact. Manufacturing companies with high noise levels are advised to consistently apply engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
