Abstract

The accessibility of public transportation is a critical factor in achieving green mobility in developing cities. The city of Mataram, as the capital of West Nusa Tenggara Province with an area of 61.30 km², faces a spatial paradox characterized by the dominance of private vehicles (±82%) despite the city’s potential for compact urban development ideal for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). This study aims to: analyze the level of spatial accessibility of existing public transportation routes to 47 urban activity centers; calculate the Public Transportation Accessibility Index (PTAI) per subdistrict; and identify service gaps in peri-urban areas bordering West Lombok Regency. A quantitative-spatial approach was applied through Euclidean buffer analysis (radii of 400 m and 800 m), network-based accessibility analysis, and weighting using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method on a Geographic Information System (GIS) platform. The results show that only 61.7% of activity centers are served within a 400-meter radius and 76.6% within an 800-meter radius of existing public transportation routes. Spatially, Cakranegara Subdistrict has the highest PTAI (0.81), while the West Lombok peri-urban corridor recorded the lowest value (0.22). The most critical accessibility gaps were found in the tourism-cultural center category (57.1% unserved) and in Sekarbela Subdistrict (PTAI = 0.38). These findings underscore the need to restructure the route network based on a regional-urban integration approach, which includes the development of five new strategic corridors, the strengthening of peri-urban commuter bus services, and the implementation of transit hubs at three priority locations. This study makes a methodological contribution in the form of the PTAI framework as a measurable tool for evaluating public transportation accessibility at the city-regional level.
