Analisa Tingkat Keselamatan Lalu Lintas pada Simpang Tak Bersinyal Dengan Metode Traffic Conflict Technique
Abstract
Abstract: Abstract: The Narmada 3-Way Intersection, which connects Suranadi Road and Mataram–Sikur Road in West Lombok Regency, is an unsignalized intersection with high traffic activity, creating a potential for conflicts among road users. This condition is further exacerbated by market activities, on-street parking, pedestrian movements, and limited traffic signs around the intersection. This study aims to analyze the level of traffic safety, identify the characteristics and severity of conflicts, and formulate safety improvement recommendations using the Traffic Conflict Technique (TCT). The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach through field observations conducted over three days, namely Monday, May 25, 2026, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and Saturday, May 30, 2026, during the observation period from 06:00 to 18:00 Central Indonesia Time (WITA). The collected data included vehicle and conflict types, vehicle speeds, distances to conflict points, evasive actions, and Time to Accident (TA) values. The TA values were calculated based on the relationship between distance and speed, and each event was classified as either a serious conflict or a non-serious conflict based on the TCT conflict boundary graph. The results identified a total of 670 conflicts, consisting of 575 serious conflicts and 95 non-serious conflicts. The highest number of conflicts occurred on Monday, with 257 events, while motorcycles were the most dominant road users involved, accounting for 390 vehicles. The most frequently observed driver responses were braking (46%) and evasive maneuvers (43%). Overall, the dominance of serious conflicts, accounting for 85% of all recorded conflicts, indicates a low level of traffic safety. The main contributing factor identified was the lack of adequate traffic signs; therefore, improvements to safety facilities and traffic management are required to reduce the potential for conflicts.
