An Analysis of Figurative Language Used in the Novella Dearest Millie by May McGoldrick
Abstract
Penelitian ini menganalisis bahasa kiasan dalam novel Dearest Millie. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis jenis-jenis bahasa kiasan dan mendeskripsikan maknanya. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Knickerbocker dan Reninger untuk menganalisis data yang ditemukan oleh penulis dalam novela tersebut. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Ada banyak kalimat yang menggunakan bahasa kiasan dalam novela tersebut. Penulis menemukan 67 data bahasa kiasan untuk dijelaskan. Data tersebut akan dianalisis dan diidentifikasi melalui tiga jenis bahasa kiasan, yaitu simile, personifikasi, dan hiperbola. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan 29 atau 43,3% data simile, 21 atau 31,3% personifikasi, dan 17 atau 25,4% hiperbola. Jenis bahasa kiasan yang paling dominan digunakan dalam novel Dearest Millie adalah simile.
