PENINGKATAN KEMAMPUAN PUBLIC SPEAKING DAN LITERASI TEKNOLOGI PESERTA DIDIK MELALUI KEGIATAN PENJURIAN LOMBA ENGLISH SPEECH “COEXISTING WITH AI: EMBRACING TECHNOLOGY WITHOUT LOSING OURSELVES”
Abstract
Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan melalui partisipasi sebagai juri pada Lomba English Speech XYRON 2025 yang diselenggarakan oleh SMA Santa Ursula Jakarta. Kegiatan ini bertujuan mendukung pengembangan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris, berpikir kritis, serta literasi teknologi peserta didik tingkat SMP/sederajat melalui kompetisi pidato berbahasa Inggris bertema “Coexisting with AI: Embracing Technology Without Losing Ourselves.” Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui penugasan sebagai juri profesional yang bertugas menilai performa peserta berdasarkan aspek relevansi isi, penggunaan bahasa, pengucapan dan kefasihan, penyampaian dan kepercayaan diri, serta dampak terhadap audiens. Selain melakukan penilaian, juri juga memberikan umpan balik konstruktif kepada peserta setelah penampilan. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 14 peserta dari berbagai sekolah dan berlangsung di Ruang Teater SMA Santa Ursula Jakarta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta mampu menyampaikan gagasan kritis mengenai pemanfaatan kecerdasan artifisial dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dengan kualitas performa yang beragam. Proses penjurian tidak hanya menghasilkan pemeringkatan peserta, tetapi juga menjadi sarana edukatif yang membantu peserta memahami aspek-aspek penting dalam public speaking berbahasa Inggris. Kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap peningkatan kompetensi komunikasi peserta sekaligus memperkuat kolaborasi antara perguruan tinggi dan sekolah dalam mendukung pengembangan generasi muda yang adaptif terhadap perkembangan teknologi.
Abstract: This community service activity was conducted through participation as a judge in the XYRON 2025 English Speech Competition organized by Santa Ursula Senior High School Jakarta. The activity aimed to support the development of English-speaking skills, critical thinking, and technological literacy among junior high school students through a speech competition themed “Coexisting with AI: Embracing Technology Without Losing Ourselves.” The implementation method involved serving as a professional judge responsible for assessing participants based on content relevance, language use, pronunciation and fluency, delivery and confidence, as well as audience impact. In addition to scoring, judges provided constructive feedback to participants after their performances. The competition involved fourteen participants from various schools and was conducted in the theater room of Santa Ursula Senior High School Jakarta. The results indicated that participants were able to express critical perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in daily life, although with varying levels of performance quality. The judging process not only determined the competition winners but also functioned as an educational platform that helped participants understand key aspects of effective English public speaking. This activity contributed positively to improving participants’ communication competencies while strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and schools in preparing young generations to face technological advancements.
