Abstract

Plastic waste is a serious environmental threat affecting human life and ecosystem sustainability. This study aims to implement and evaluate the establishment of a Waste Bank as a solution for plastic waste management at the Putri ‘Aisyiyah Riau Orphanage. The method used participatory approaches involving 45 orphanage children trained in organized plastic waste sorting and management, with economic benefits derived from recycling proceeds. Findings indicate the Waste Bank program effectively increases environmental awareness, active participation, and significantly reduces plastic waste accumulation. The children gained economic benefits from recycling waste and actively engaged in waste management activities. In conclusion, the Waste Bank is an effective educational and socio-economic empowerment medium for plastic waste management and can serve as a sustainable waste management model for other communities.
