Abstract

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition often associated with gut-brain axis dysfunction, which plays a crucial role in regulating emotions, behavior, and cognitive function in children. This study aims to develop the Probiotic, Aromatherapy, and Qigong Integrated System (PAQIS) as an integrative approach to modulating the gut-brain axis to support the well-being of children with autism. PAQIS is designed as a holistic intervention model that combines probiotic consumption to improve gut microbiota balance, aromatherapy to stimulate relaxation through the olfactory pathway, and qigong exercises to improve respiratory regulation and autonomic nervous system function. The program implementation method includes six stages: preparation, socialization, training, intervention implementation, mentoring and evaluation, and sustainability. The results of the study indicate that PAQIS is feasible to implement and provides positive indications of increased relaxation, focus, and gastrointestinal comfort. Thus, PAQIS has the potential to be a safe, easy-to-implement, and relevant complementary intervention model to support non-pharmacological treatment in children with autism.
