Abstract

Abstract
Stigma toward people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) remains a major barrier in HIV/AIDS prevention and control efforts within communities. Stigma often arises due to limited public knowledge regarding HIV transmission, prevention, and the lives of individuals living with HIV. This condition may lead to social discrimination that negatively affects the quality of life of PLWHA and reduces their access to health services. This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and awareness in reducing stigma toward PLWHA through health education. The activity was conducted in commemoration of World AIDS Day and involved 38 community participants. The methods included health education sessions, interactive discussions, and distribution of educational leaflets. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding regarding HIV/AIDS, modes of transmission, and the importance of providing social support to PLWHA. Participants also demonstrated more positive attitudes and empathy toward PLWHA after attending the education session. Therefore, health education is considered an effective strategy to enhance community health literacy while reducing social stigma toward PLWHA.
