Abstract

Abstract

This community service project aims to design the interior and visual identity of the Meeting Hall at the Angkah Village Office using an inclusive design approach that aligns with the needs and character of the local community. This approach prioritizes the active participation of residents in all stages of the design process, from identifying needs and design discussions to evaluating the results. Through participatory design methods, community aspirations were compiled into a spatial concept that is functional, easily accessible, and capable of accommodating various communal activities. A minimalist design style was chosen to create a simple, efficient, and resource-efficient atmosphere, while also facilitating long-term maintenance. Local materials and neutral colors were used to create a warm, open, and welcoming environment for all groups, including the elderly and people with disabilities. The building’s visual identity was designed to reinforce the village’s image as a modern shared space that remains rooted in local culture. The results of the project demonstrate that collaboration between the design team and the community can produce design solutions that are not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also embody a strong sense of community. This approach is expected to serve as a model for the design of sustainable, adaptive public spaces that foster a sense of ownership among community members toward the shared facilities.
