Abstract

Abstract

Padang is exposed to substantial seismic hazards that require improved construction practices for residential buildings. Masonry walls in simple houses are vulnerable to cracking, separation from the frame, and sudden collapse under lateral loads. This community service program aimed to provide employees and construction workers of PT Adiwidia Cipta Amerta Padang with basic knowledge and hands-on experience in applying ferrocement layers as wall reinforcement to reduce the risk of sudden earthquake-induced collapse. The program was conducted on 14 June 2025 through needs identification, preparation, dissemination, technical training, evaluation, and follow-up planning. Quantitative evaluation used verifiable process and output indicators derived from attendance records, documentation, and implementation notes. Nine participants took part in both the dissemination session and technical training. All five program stages and five core technical demonstration components were completed, representing 100% implementation. The activity produced one technical module and one wall demonstration segment, fulfilling two of two principal outputs. Qualitative observations showed that participant discussions focused on anchor functions, wire-mesh positioning, mortar quality, layer thickness, costs, and quality control. The program provides a practical basis for the partner to incorporate wall-reinforcement details into worker briefings and site supervision. A percentage increase in participant knowledge is not claimed because no recorded pre-test and post-test scores were available.
