Abstract

Abstract

Surgical procedures require adequate physical, psychological, and cognitive patient readiness beginning in the preoperative phase. Limited community understanding of preoperative preparation, risks, and anesthesia procedures may increase anxiety and reduce active patient involvement. Building on prior research findings that identified gaps in preoperative understanding, lecturers and practitioners from the Anesthesiology Nursing Study Program, Bhakti Kencana University, conducted a community service program titled PRIMA BEDAH (Preparation, Risk, Information, Management, Anesthesia) for residents of RT 02 RW 06, Randusari Village, Semarang City. This activity aimed to improve community knowledge and attitudes toward preoperative readiness and to serve as a model for the downstream application of research findings into evidence-based practice. The program was delivered through interactive lectures, discussions, and educational media to 30 respondents, evaluated using pre-test and post-test measures. Results showed knowledge in the "Good" category increased from 6.7% to 63.3%, while all respondents in the "Poor" category disappeared post-intervention. Attitude scores also improved, from 83.3% to 100% in the "Good" category, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in enhancing community preoperative readiness.
