Abstract

Abstract

Elementary school teachers in Papua often struggle to provide visual learning materials based on local contexts due to time constraints and a lack of graphic design skills. This community service activity trains teachers to utilize the generative artificial intelligence GPT Image version 2.0 to produce educational posters by crafting structured text prompts and verifying the accuracy of the content. The target participants for this activity were 9 teachers representing all subjects of the Merdeka Curriculum at SDN 2 Abepura, assisted by students majoring in Pancasila and Civic Education who served as technical mentors. This community service activity was held on July 17, 2026, at SDN 2 Abepura, Abepura District, Jayapura City, Papua Province. The implementation method used was a three-stage training program comprising preparation, implementation (theoretical presentation and hands-on practice), and immediate evaluation of the final products. Quantitative results showed 100% success among participants, with the production of 9 learning posters, five of which incorporated Papuan local wisdom. Success was measured not by test scores, but by tangible products. All participants, who initially had never created prompts for learning, were ultimately able to produce one poster independently using a structured two-step prompt. This marks a shift in the use of AI—from merely generating personal photos to developing professional skills in creating instructional materials. The verbal and numerical content on the posters proved to be accurate; efforts to avoid high-risk national symbols were also successfully implemented following a failed practice session, whereas a request for a moral message intended to be universal on one poster actually produced an output that leaned toward a specific cultural-religious framework. Prompt engineering skills, therefore, must be accompanied by the ability to independently verify content before the materials are used in the classroom.
