Community Empowerment For Sustainable Food Area Development With An Eco-Lifestyle And Eco-Culture Approach In Panggungharjo, Bantul

Abstract


Panggungharjo Village, Sewon District, Bantul Regency, is an area with significant potential for developing a Sustainable Food Area (SFA). Proper and efficient utilization of yard land in both cities and villages can support food security and reflect the implementation of eco-lifestyle and eco-culture habits. The main objective of this program is to empower the Panggungharjo village community through the development of Sustainable Food Areas (SFA) with an eco-lifestyle and eco-culture approach. The service activity occurred in Panggungharjo Village on June - September, 2025. This program uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method to overcome the problems in Panggungharjo Village. The program successfully enhanced community-based integrated farming and food self-sufficiency. Partner 1 (Sumber Rejeki Women's Farmers Group) prefers a combination of agriculture and animal husbandry, while Partner 2 (Jaranan Mulya Fish Cultivation Group) mostly chooses the integration of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. Participants expressed satisfaction and used their yields for family needs. Production significantly increased, with Partner 1 showing the highest growth in vegetables (152%) and catfish (125%), and Partner 2 achieving remarkable gains in catfish (1025%) and gourami (240%). Overall, the program effectively improved productivity and promoted sustainable integrated farming practices.
