EFEKTIFITAS INTENSIVE ENGLISH COURSE FOR UMMAT LECTURER AND STAFF DI MASA PANDEMI COVID 19 TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN SPEAKING

Abstract


Abstrak: Pencapaian visi-misi menjadi Universitas unggul, Islami, dan berdaya saing dikawasan ASEAN merupakan ikhtiar Bersama seluruh civitas Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) dalam rangka pengembangan kualitas dan kapasitas sumber daya. Arah dan orientasi kebijakan Universitas tentu menjadi landasan utama dalam menggapai visi-misi tersebut. Upaya ini perlu didukung Langkah dan Tindakan yang inovatif dan kreatif dari seluruh unsur dan level struktur di UMMAT dalam bentuk implementasi riil yang sistematis, jelas dan terukur. Salah satu tindakan dan langkah yang di laksanakan adalah memberikan Kursus Bahasa Inggris kepada seluruh Dosen dan Staff UMMAT. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya dampak yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa inggris Dosen dan Staff UMMAT. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode one group pretst posttest design untuk mengetahui efektifitas dari memberikan Intensive English Speaking Course kepada Dosen dan Staff di UMMAT. Hasil penelitian terhadap 22 peserta terdapat peningkatan hasil Kursus Bahasa Inggris terhadap dosen dan staff khususnya speaking skill sangat efektif dilihat dari peningkatan skor rata – rata pre-test sebesar 56,00 dan  meningkat pada post test dengan rata – rata sebesar 68,55. Dan terjadi peningkatan hasil yang signifikan pada hasil kursus Bahasa Inggris bagi dosen dan staff UMMAT antara sebelum dan sesudah treatment. Hasil uji t menunjukkan skor sebesar -13.594 (sig=0,000). Uji t antara pretest dan post test secara signifikan sangat efektif.

Abstract:  Muhammadiyah University of Mataram (UMMAT)'s community has worked together to increase the quality and capacity of its resources to realize the vision and goal of being a superior, Islamic, and competitive university in the ASEAN area. Certainly, the primary foundation for attaining these visions and purposes is the direction and orientation of the university's policies. This effort needs to be backed up by original and imaginative Steps and Actions from all UMMAT structure levels and elements in the form of practical implementation that is methodical, understandable, and measurable. All UMMAT lecturers and employees will receive English training as one of the initiatives and steps are done. This study was done to see if there was any real improvement in the lecturers' and staff's English-speaking abilities at UMMAT. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of offering an intensive English-speaking course to lecturers and staff at UMMAT using a one-group pretest-posttest design technique. The results of research on 22 participants, there was an increase in the results of the English course for lecturers and staff, especially speaking skills, which was very effective, as seen from the increase in the average pre-test score of 56.00 and an increase in the post-test by an average of 68.55. And there was a significant increase in the results of the English course for UMMAT lecturers and staff between before and after treatment. The results of the t-test showed a score of -13,594 (sig = 0.000). The t-test between pre-test and post-test was significantly very effective.
