Abstract

Abstract
The prevalence of non-communicable diseases has shown a persistent upward trend, predominantly driven by unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Although prior research has consistently highlighted the benefits of health-promoting practices, their adoption at the community level remains suboptimal. Contributing factors include limited health literacy, low intrinsic motivation, and inadequate adherence to recommended behaviors. This community engagement initiative was designed to strengthen health literacy through promotive–preventive education and basic health screening. The program was implemented among 58 residents of Tunjuk Village, Tabanan Regency, dated 18-23 August 2025, utilizing structured educational sessions and comprehensive health assessments. Based on participants’ discussions and feedback, the educational activities were considered effective in improving their understanding of self-care, alongside clinical outcomes indicating a mean body mass index of 24.41 kg/m², mean systolic blood pressure of 132.29 mmHg, mean uric acid level of 5.54 mg/dl, mean cholesterol level of 258.92 mg/dl, and mean blood glucose level of 126.63 mg/dl. Participants received targeted education on self-care practices as well as recommendations for appropriate follow-up based on their screening results. The outcomes highlight the critical need for sustained, community-based educational interventions to foster the long-term internalization and consistent practice of health-promoting behaviors. Furthermore, the findings emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts among local authorities, primary healthcare services, and the community to ensure the continuity and sustainability of community-based self-care programs.
