Abstract

Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable group to the influence of skincare product promotions that are not always safe or officially registered. Limited knowledge and a lack of critical attitudes toward skincare use can pose risks to skin health and exposure to harmful ingredients. The Regenera-CARE (Generation Z Smart Skincare) program was implemented at YP UNILA Senior High School in Bandar Lampung to improve adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward the safe use of skincare products. This community program involved 39 participants (18 males and 21 females) who took part in health education delivered through interactive lectures and discussions. A pre-test and post-test questionnaire consisting of 15 Likert-scale statements (1–4) with reverse scoring on negative items was used to evaluate changes following the education session. The results showed that the mean attitude score for male participants was 3.34 ± 0.35 at pre-test and 3.28 ± 0.35 at post-test, while for female participants it increased from 3.41 ± 0.39 to 3.49 ± 0.24. The proportion of participants categorized as having a “Good” attitude increased from 67% to 78% among males and from 76% to 81% among females. Statistical analysis using paired t-test and independent t-test indicated no significant differences between time points or genders (p>0.05). Nevertheless, there was a positive trend in attitude improvement toward safe skincare use following the educational intervention. The Regenera-CARE program proved effective in enhancing adolescents’ awareness and attitudes toward safe skincare choices and could be adapted as a school-based health education model to promote responsible and healthy skincare behavior.
