Pemberdayaan generasi Z melalui edukasi dan pembuatan reed diffuser aromaterapi herbal untuk meningkatkan kenyamanan dan kebersihan lingkungan

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang nyaman dan higienis sebagai faktor pendukung konsentrasi, motivasi, dan kesejahteraan psikologis siswa Generasi Z. Hasil observasi di SMK Negeri 3 Mataram menunjukkan bahwa beberapa ruang kelas masih terasa pengap akibat ventilasi yang kurang optimal serta rendahnya literasi siswa terkait pemanfaatan bahan alam untuk mendukung higiene lingkungan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan siswa dalam pembuatan reed diffuser aromaterapi herbal sebagai upaya menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih nyaman, sehat, dan segar. Peserta kegiatan berjumlah 25 siswa. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif berbasis learning by doing yang meliputi penyuluhan interaktif, demonstrasi, praktik langsung pembuatan reed diffuser aromaterapi herbal, serta evaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Penilaian keterampilan peserta dilakukan melalui observasi selama praktik berlangsung. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan siswa terkait higiene lingkungan dan pemanfaatan aromaterapi herbal, ditandai dengan meningkatnya nilai post-test dibandingkan pre-test sebesar 20%. Secara kuantitatif, sebagian besar peserta mampu membuat reed diffuser secara mandiri sesuai prosedur yang diajarkan. Secara kualitatif, kegiatan ini meningkatkan kesadaran siswa terhadap pentingnya menjaga kenyamanan dan kebersihan lingkungan sekolah berbasis bahan alam. Produk reed diffuser yang dihasilkan juga dimanfaatkan di ruang kelas untuk mendukung suasana belajar yang lebih nyaman dan menyegarkan. Program ini memberikan pengalaman belajar yang kreatif, aplikatif, serta berpotensi dikembangkan menjadi kegiatan kewirausahaan sederhana di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the importance of creating a comfortable and hygienic learning environment as a supporting factor for the concentration, motivation, and psychological well-being of Generation Z students. Observations conducted at SMK Negeri 3 Mataram revealed that several classrooms still felt stuffy due to inadequate ventilation and the low level of students’ literacy regarding the utilization of natural materials to support environmental hygiene. This activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and skills in producing herbal aromatherapy reed diffusers as an effort to create a more comfortable, healthy, and refreshing learning environment. The participants consisted of 50 students. The implementation method employed an educative-participatory approach based on learning by doing, which included interactive counseling sessions, demonstrations, hands-on practice in making herbal aromatherapy reed diffusers, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments. Participants’ skills were assessed through direct observation during the practice sessions. The results showed an improvement in students’ knowledge regarding environmental hygiene and the use of herbal aromatherapy, indicated by a 20% increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. Quantitatively, most participants were able to independently produce reed diffusers according to the procedures taught. Qualitatively, this activity increased students’ awareness of the importance of maintaining a comfortable and clean school environment using natural-based products. The reed diffusers produced were also utilized in classrooms to support a more pleasant and refreshing learning atmosphere. This program provided a creative and practical learning experience and has the potential to be further developed into a simple entrepreneurship activity within the school environment.
