Abstract

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Food Program (MBG) is a strategic government policy aimed at improving the nutritional status of school-aged children. However, the effectiveness of this program depends not only on the availability of nutritious food, but also on students' understanding and behavior towards healthy eating patterns. Low nutritional literacy and the lack of participatory health communication in schools pose challenges to the sustainability of the MBG program. Therefore, a school-based health communication outreach approach is needed to strengthen understanding and change the behavior of parents and students. The purpose of this community service activity is to improve nutritional literacy and student awareness of the importance of consuming nutritious food through a participatory health communication approach at Regol 2 Elementary School, Garut. The community service method is carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. Activities include interactive counseling, group discussions, educational games, and hands-on practice in reading food composition. Assessment was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests to measure the improvement in students' understanding. The results of the community service activity indicate a significant increase in students' understanding of balanced nutrition and the importance of the MBG program. The average student understanding score rose from 55.67% in the pre-test to 92.98% in the post-test.. Furthermore, students demonstrated enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the activity. Thus, school-based health communication activities have proven effective as a supporting strategy for the success of the Free Nutritious Meals Program at the elementary school level.
