MENJAGA PENDENGARAN DALAM MERAWAT KEHIDUPAN: PEMBERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT UNTUK KESEHATAN TELINGA
Abstract
Abstract: Hearing loss is a significant global health issue, with Indonesia ranking fourth highest in Southeast Asia. The habit of cleaning the ears with cotton buds often triggers earwax buildup, a common cause of conductive hearing loss. The community continues to widely practice this habit despite the risk of injury, infection, and hearing loss. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase awareness of members of the “Aisyiyah Condongcatur Barat” Branch as community service partners about the importance of safe and proper ear care. The research methods used include focus group discussion (FGD), education through PowerPoint media, and evaluation of participant knowledge using 10 questions in the pre- and post-tests. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge after the educational intervention, with post-test scores averaging 0.8 points higher than pre-test scores. These findings indicate that health education is effective in shaping positive perceptions and behaviours towards ear care. This program is expected to serve as a sustainable, community-based model for promotive and preventive ear health education.
