PENERAPAN TEKNOLOGI BIOFILTER UNTUK PENINGKATAN KUALITAS AIR DAN PRODUKTIVITAS BUDIDAYA IKAN NILA
Abstract
Abstract: The availability of quality water remains a major challenge in coastal tilapia farming, affecting the productivity and livelihoods of local fish farmers. The SCOTER program was implemented to address this issue through the application of a biofilter technology tailored to the community’s needs. The program involved 15 fish farmers supported by eight students and two lecturers through several stages, including pond-condition surveys, the design of a five-level filtration system, participatory biofilter assembly, and training on equipment operation and maintenance. Evaluation was conducted through clarity screening of 15 pond-water samples before and after biofilter installation, followed by interviews one month after implementation. The results showed consistent improvements in water clarity, reduced organic sediment, stabilized pond conditions, and more active and responsive fish behavior. The program also strengthened the community’s capacity to assemble, operate, and maintain the biofilter independently. These findings confirm that the biofilter provides an effective technical solution while supporting the sustainability of tilapia aquaculture in coastal areas.
