Abstract

Abstract: Increasingly complex health problems demand that health professionals collaborate effectively across disciplines. This community service activity aimed to enhance health students’ self-confidence in interprofessional collaboration through a Healthcare Team Challenge workshop at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Manila, on May 4, 2025. The workshop comprised an introductory lecture on interprofessional collaboration (30 minutes), case-based collaborative practice using the Healthcare Team Challenge (60 minutes), and a reflection session (30 minutes). A total of 53 students from various health programs participated and were assigned to seven interprofessional groups. A pre–post design was used to assess self-confidence in interprofessional collaboration; differences between pre- and post-workshop scores were analysed using the Wilcoxon test due to non-normal data distribution. The results demonstrated an increase in self-confidence after the training and a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-workshop scores (p < 0.001). Qualitative findings from participants’ reflections indicated perceived benefits, including improved understanding of other professions’ roles, enhanced communication and teamwork, and a more open-minded attitude toward collaboration. In conclusion, the Healthcare Team Challenge workshop was effective in strengthening students’ self-confidence in interprofessional collaboration and supports the early development of collaborative competencies during professional education.
