Abstract

Abstract: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains one of the major health problems among school-age children, particularly in environments where the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) is still suboptimal. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and skills in preventing ARI through CHLB education. The program was conducted among 12 sixth-grade students at SDN UPT SPF 101850 Namo Mirik Village using interactive counseling, demonstrations, role play, and direct practice methods related to proper handwashing, cough and sneeze etiquette, and waste management. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure knowledge aspects (hard skills), as well as observation sheets to assess students’ soft skills. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 5.33 to 6.58, representing a 23.45% improvement categorized as moderate. In addition, observation results indicated that 83.3% of students were able to correctly practice the six steps of handwashing, 75% were able to apply proper cough and sneeze etiquette, and 83.3% actively participated during the activity. A portable handwashing facility designed with an attractive appearance for students also supported the direct implementation of CHLB in the school environment. This activity was effective in improving students’ knowledge and skills as a preventive effort against ARI among school-age children.
