Abstract

Abstract: Low levels of reproductive health literacy among adolescents, resulting from a lack of communication and persistent taboos and stigma, have become an urgent issue in Lamongan Regency. This program aims to optimize the role of peer counselors in broadening young people’s understanding of reproductive health through the GENSMART program (Generation Aware of Sexuality, Independent, and Responsible). Activities were conducted in the form of interactive workshops using booklets, PowerPoint presentations, and posters, followed by role-playing simulations as peer educators, involving 60 students as partners. Effectiveness was measured by comparing participants’ pre-test and post-test results. The results showed a 45% increase in hard skills—specifically, knowledge of reproductive health as indicated by an increase in the “Good” category from 10% to 20% and a decrease in the “Poor” category from 43.7% to 26.7%. Participants’ soft skills also improved by 55%, as evaluated through observation and self-assessment based on two key indicators: communication skills including clarity in conveying messages and the ability to answer peers’ questions and self-confidence as a peer educator, which encompasses the courage to speak in front of others and comfort in discussing reproductive health topics with peers.
