Abstract

Abstract: The high dependency on fossil fuels amid the current global energy crisis demands strategic efforts to transition toward more environmentally friendly energy sources, particularly in rural sectors that remain constrained by limited access to affordable and quality energy. This community service initiative is crucial to implement in order to stimulate socio-economic transformation in rural areas, overcome welfare barriers, and contribute tangibly to the achievement of SDGs Goal 7 regarding the provision of affordable and clean energy. This program is oriented toward empowering older adults to establish an energy-independent region by enhancing both soft skills (understanding of renewable energy management) and hard skills (technical proficiency in infrastructure maintenance). To achieve these objectives, a participatory methodology was deployed, combining educational lectures, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and hands-on field practices integrated with an analysis of local energy potential (solar, wind, and biomass). The program targeted strategic partners consisting of 20 older adults under the auspices of Indonesia Ramah Lansia (IRL) West Java. The success of the program was comprehensively evaluated through the administration of questionnaires (pre-test and post-test) and direct observation of the partners' performance. Based on the evaluation results, this intervention proved to be highly effective, as evidenced by a 42% surge in participants' understanding (soft skills) and a 48% increase in their technical proficiency (hard skills) in maintaining renewable energy infrastructure.
