Abstract

Abstract: Pulmonary aspiration during surgery as a result of anesthesia is an important case to prevent, because it can cause lung inflammation or even increase the risk of death. Unfortunately, patients still do not understand the importance of fasting before surgery and are non-compliant in following preoperative fasting instructions. This Community Service Activity aims to improve patient compliance in fasting before surgery so that it can reduce the risk of pulmonary aspiration during surgery which has an impact on increasing perioperative patient safety. There were 20 participants in this activity. The service method is in the form of counseling. Monitoring and evaluation were carried out using a pre-test and post-test using a 10-question preoperative fasting compliance questionnaire. The activity was carried out on August 5, 2024 with the average preoperative fasting compliance score increasing by 5.95 (30%) after this activity was carried out. The minimum preoperative fasting compliance score which was previously 15 increased to 22, while the maximum preoperative fasting compliance score which was previously 34 became 38.
