Abstract

Abstract: Mental health is a fundamental component in achieving community well-being. Parakanmanggu Village, Parigi Subdistrict, Pangandaran Regency, continues to face several challenges, including low mental health literacy, persistent stigma toward People with Mental Disorders (PMD), and limited access to professional mental health services. This Community Service Program aimed to enhance the capacity of mental health cadres through community-based training to support the development of a mentally healthy village. The program employed an educational approach using interactive lectures complemented by question-and-answer discussions. A total of 18 participants were involved, consisting of 12 health cadres, 4 hamlet heads, and 2 village officials. Evaluation was conducted using the Community Attitudes Toward the Mentally Ill (CAMI III) questionnaire to assess stigma toward PMD, as well as Pre-test and Post-test instruments to measure participants’ knowledge related to mental health and Psychological First Aid (PFA). The results demonstrated a significant increase in the average knowledge score, from 62.78 before the training to 90.00 after the intervention. Furthermore, most respondents (83.3%) exhibited positive attitudes toward PMD, indicating an improvement in community awareness. Overall, this program proved effective in improving mental health literacy and enhancing cadres’ skills in early detection, basic counseling, and mental health promotion at the village level.
