PROGRAM SKRINING SINDROM METABOLIK SEBAGAI UPAYA DETEKSI DINI PENYAKIT TIDAK MENULAR PADA LANSIA
Abstract
Abstract: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the elderly continues to increase with age and lifestyle changes, but this condition often goes undetected due to its asymptomatic nature. Community pharmacies have the potential to be strategic early detection points, given the limited access of elderly people to conventional laboratory facilities. The objectives of this activity are to map the profiles of blood pressure, random blood sugar, and total cholesterol in the elderly, identify the proportion of groups at risk of metabolic syndrome, and provide education and referrals based on screening results. The method used is descriptive cross-sectional screening with Point of Care Testing (POCT), followed by individual pharmacy counseling by pharmacists. The activity partner is Apotek Vita Plus, Tarakan City, North Kalimantan, with 68 elderly participants participating voluntarily, held every Friday from November–December 2025. Through Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) on 68 elderly participants, the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia was found to be 52.9%, alongside hypertension at 32.3%, and hyperglycemia at 13.2%. Further analysis revealed that 10.3% of the participants simultaneously exhibited all three risk factors for metabolic syndrome. These clinical findings served as the basis for follow-up interventions, which included individualized pharmaceutical education, recommendations for lifestyle modifications, and advanced medical referrals.
