Abstract

Abstract: Perineal rupture is a common postpartum complication following vaginal delivery, with an estimated 2.7 million cases globally in 2020. In Indonesia, approximately 75% of women delivering vaginally experience perineal tears, and at Sipahutar Community Health Center, 21.6% of delivering mothers sustained perineal wounds in 2025. Adequate perineal wound care is essential for postpartum women, as neglect can lead to infection, severe morbidity, and economic burden. Greater plantain (Plantago major L.) and turmeric rhizome (Curcuma longa L.) are medicinal plants containing bioactive secondary metabolites. Their combination may provide complementary antibacterial activity that supports perineal wound healing. However, specific evidence on the use of their combined decoction for perineal wound care remains limited. This activity aimed to improve postpartum women’s knowledge regarding the use of a combined decoction of these plants as part of perineal wound care. Thirty postpartum women participated through health education, demonstration, and hands-on practice. Knowledge was assessed using a 20-item questionnaire administered as pre-test and post-test. The proportion of women with good knowledge increased from 16.7% at baseline to 73.3% after the intervention.
