PENGUATAN PENDIDIKAN KONSERVASI RUSA TIMOR (Rusa Timorensis) PADA GENERASI MUDA DI KOTA SURAKARTA
Abstract
Abstract: Rusa timor (Rusa timorensis) is a species protected by the government of Indonesia and listed on the IUCN Red List with a vulnerable status. The management of these animals in the city of Surakarta still faces problems related to animal welfare and low conservation literacy among the community, especially the younger generation. This service activity aims to improve knowledge and attitudes toward rusa timor conservation among 143 students in class VII of the SMP Muhammadiyah Special Program (PK) Kottabarat, Surakarta City. The Implementation of socialization starts with the pre-activity stage (coordination and needs assesment), implementation (pre-test, socialization, and discussion), and evaluation (post-test, recommendation formulation). The success of the activity was measured using a 15-item questionnaire covering knowledge, attitudes, and behavior, which was administered identically in both the pre-test and the post-test. The results of the activity showed an increase in the overall average scores for knowledge (from 95.8 to 96.22), attitudes (from 89.79 to 91.33), and behavior (from 95.66 to 96.22). This activity also shows that it helps students understand the status of rusa timor protection and how to participate and contribute to the conservation efforts of rusa timor. From this activity, it can be concluded that conservation education based on local iconic species is effective in increasing concern among the younger generation, so it is recommended to be implemented as a sustainable program.
